Something's up with my dad and I can't figure it out, but maybe I'm crazy?
Okay, okay I know this is going to sound like I’m high and living out of some badly scripted movie, but I’m the paranoid type.

My dad works as a Financial Systems Analyst (fancy for accountant) for the Department of Defense. Anyway, the past few months he’s been going on a lot more business trips than usual, like three times as many. He always gives me his hotel information in case of emergencies or if I need more money in my checking account or something. So one time I needed something, I called the hotel and requested him. They had no record of him staying at the hotel. Not only that, his four day trip turned into some mysterious eight day trip… and his phone wasn’t turned on (straight to voicemail). Super creepy? Well it happened a few more times before I called his work and they assured me he was there and that he was just super busy in meetings or something (Government people…). Well, so he supposedly had a trip to San Fransisco and I called his hotel and guess what? He wasn’t there! His cell phone was on, but he wasn’t answering. I must have spent four or five hours calling every hotel in the area. ALL said he wasn’t there.

He has also been working a lot more. Usually he’s home by 4 (unless he goes out with his friends or girlfriend), but he’s been working till like 6 or 7 and not coming home till like 8. His girlfriend of 4 years broke up with him for working too much!

On top of this, about a month ago this weird 866 number kept calling. A few times I answered and it was a woman (sounded black) in a very hushed voice, distressed voice. She would ask for my father. I would say the generic "He’s not her right now, can I take a message?" She would just hang up. I called back a few times expecting some company, but it was a personal number. It was to some guy named guy, and when it went to voicemail it said that it couldn’t take anymore messages as it was full. I told my dad and he said it was probably a solicitor or bill collector (except my dad isn’t in any kind of debt). They continued to call and I would hear breathing and then the call would end. Sometimes I would answer and it would immediately end. Now the phone isn’t even in service. I haven’t heard from "them" in a week, so I was curious and tried to call them back.

On top of all that I came home yesterday to find our house a complete wreck. It was ransacked. Nothing was stolen though! The intruder had taken stuff out of drawers and closets (my neatly organized closet TRASHED!) and thew it everywhere.

I think that my dad is like a secret spy or something?! This sounds crazy, I know. But its really weird. I think that he’s maybe an assassin or something top secret. I haven’t found a secret room in our house yet (like in the movies), but IDK.

My father also brought in a lot more money than his job pays him last year. I’m really nosy about his finances, which I know are none of my business. But his salary is public record.

A new lunar mission was never started, so there is nothing to cancel. Oh, NASA wanted to go, and lots of people proposed going, but congress never appropriated the money. All new manned rocket development is targeted at servicing the space station only. So if the president said it was cut (I hadn’t heard he did, but he might have), it has no real meaning.

No. He’s lost my vote in 2012, and I’m a left-leaning democrat. A permanent human presence on the Moon would have been our springboard to Mars. And if you’re not interested in that, mining helium-3 would have provided a new souce of unlimited energy that would make nuclear power look like steam power. The human race is getting too big, the Earth is getting too small. Now we are a third-world country. Avatar, The Hurt Locker, or District 9?
All 3 movies are up for best picture this year. There are others on the best picture list but right now everyone is saying that these three are the top contenders. I enjoyed Avatar and all. And it’s by far one of the most visually amazing films out there. It’s made by James Cameron after all However if you were to take away all of it’s visual effects it pretty much turns out to be Pocahontas/Dancing with the Wolves with blue aliens. If you’ve seen Pocahontas or Dancing with the Wolves. You’d understand what I meant by the story of Avatar being extremely cliched. Most people will think and say that Avatar should win because all a movie needs nowadays are explosions and shiny things for it to be best picture. I suppose story doesn’t matter anymore >_>

However if anyone has seen The Hurt Locker or District 9, both are visually amazing and have a gripping story that sends out powerful messages that makes the viewer connect to and think about reality and the many problems embroiling the world. Here’s a rundown of what the 3 movies are about real quick. Don’t think about the visual effects. Just totally block them out. Think about the story and pick and choose for yourself.

Avatar: Set in very distant future. Main character travels to different planet to replace brother. Becomes a Na’vi alien. Can run really fast now and do cool flips in the air. Meets female blue Na’vi. Falls in love with said Na’vi. Decides to switch sides and fight for the Na’vi, because the humans are depicted as typically greedy individuals who want to steal resources. Surprise, surprise. The aliens protect a giant tree and win even though the humans had incredible high tech weapons and ships and the main character ends up living happily ever after with the woman he loves in a feel good almost Disney esque fuzzy ending O__O

The Hurt Locker: Based on real life experiences from soldiers and journalists while over in Iraq. Soldier is sent to Iraq as apart of the EOD. An elite bomb dismantling squad. Said soldier and his team face constant death as they try their best to protect innocent civilians everyday from roadside bombs and sharp shooting snipers. No room for error because when you’re dismantling a bomb and you make a teeny little mistake you die. Each and everyday is hell for the EOD squad as the struggle to keep everything under control. In the end the main character crumbles beneath the stress of his job and doesn’t end living happily ever after even though he tries to lead a normal family life but can’t.

District 9: Based on the cultural happenings and current problems in South Africa, Tanzania, and other parts of the world where people live in extreme poverty and areas rife with crime, discrimination, hate, ignorance, meaningless violence, and elitism. Main character is at first very biased towards the aliens and sees them as nothing more then animals and scum. However through very clever character development. Irony hits him in the face, LITERALLY, and he is FORCED to become an alien. No choice is given to him. He hates what is happening to him and people begin hunting him to harvest his body parts. And see him as nothing more then a pig up for slaughter. He slowly begins to realize the hell the aliens that landed on earth on going through and connects with another alien named Christopher who has a small son who are both trying to escape back to their home planet. At first the main character is completely selfish and only wants Christopher to cure him and turn him human again. But as time passes he witnesses the brutality the aliens are suffering at the hands of everyone. And grows somewhat of a heart, not a TOTAL heart. He

Futurama: Bender’s Game (2008) IMDB rating: 7.40 Plot: At once a merciless skewering of all things fanboy and an extremely satisfying addition to the Futurama franchise, Bender’s Game is among the best of the animated series’ feature length adventures. The game in question is Dungeons and Dragons, and Bender wants in—only robots aren’t programmed with the necessary imagination. one of the best books i have EVER read is speak by laurie halse anderson. it isn’t very long and there is a movie that goes with it that comes on lifetime a whole lot. i strongly suggest that you choose this book!

Multiplicity: 2

A 4th degree polynomial means that when the factors are multiplied out, one term has an x^4. It could also have an x^3 term, x^2 term, x term, and a coefficient, but doesn’t necessarily have to have any of those.

The zeros mean that when that value is plugged in for x, the answer is zero. The easiest way to do this is to have factors of (x – 4) and (x – 3 – 2i).

A multiplicity of two means that the factor is squared. Multiplicity of three would mean the factor is cubed, etc.

The paint-stripped door, lit by a single thread of moonlight in the jet black night, creaked and moaned as it opened. Thorns were strewn across the path, like sadistic slithering snakes, waiting to catch you at your weakest.
