Something's up with my dad and I can't figure it out, but maybe I'm crazy?
Okay, okay I know this is going to sound like I’m high and living out of some badly scripted movie, but I’m the paranoid type.

My dad works as a Financial Systems Analyst (fancy for accountant) for the Department of Defense. Anyway, the past few months he’s been going on a lot more business trips than usual, like three times as many. He always gives me his hotel information in case of emergencies or if I need more money in my checking account or something. So one time I needed something, I called the hotel and requested him. They had no record of him staying at the hotel. Not only that, his four day trip turned into some mysterious eight day trip… and his phone wasn’t turned on (straight to voicemail). Super creepy? Well it happened a few more times before I called his work and they assured me he was there and that he was just super busy in meetings or something (Government people…). Well, so he supposedly had a trip to San Fransisco and I called his hotel and guess what? He wasn’t there! His cell phone was on, but he wasn’t answering. I must have spent four or five hours calling every hotel in the area. ALL said he wasn’t there.

He has also been working a lot more. Usually he’s home by 4 (unless he goes out with his friends or girlfriend), but he’s been working till like 6 or 7 and not coming home till like 8. His girlfriend of 4 years broke up with him for working too much!

On top of this, about a month ago this weird 866 number kept calling. A few times I answered and it was a woman (sounded black) in a very hushed voice, distressed voice. She would ask for my father. I would say the generic "He’s not her right now, can I take a message?" She would just hang up. I called back a few times expecting some company, but it was a personal number. It was to some guy named guy, and when it went to voicemail it said that it couldn’t take anymore messages as it was full. I told my dad and he said it was probably a solicitor or bill collector (except my dad isn’t in any kind of debt). They continued to call and I would hear breathing and then the call would end. Sometimes I would answer and it would immediately end. Now the phone isn’t even in service. I haven’t heard from "them" in a week, so I was curious and tried to call them back.

On top of all that I came home yesterday to find our house a complete wreck. It was ransacked. Nothing was stolen though! The intruder had taken stuff out of drawers and closets (my neatly organized closet TRASHED!) and thew it everywhere.

I think that my dad is like a secret spy or something?! This sounds crazy, I know. But its really weird. I think that he’s maybe an assassin or something top secret. I haven’t found a secret room in our house yet (like in the movies), but IDK.

My father also brought in a lot more money than his job pays him last year. I’m really nosy about his finances, which I know are none of my business. But his salary is public record.

For 2009, a person on the General Schedule, Rank 14 (GS13), Step 3 makes a Base of 89,009. Then you have to multiple that by the local increase. For Cleveland that’s 18.16%. This comes to a little over 105,000 (this is before the taxes and stuff).
http://www.opm.gov/oca/09tables/html/gs. asp
http://www.opm.gov/oca/09tables/html/cle .asp

I tried telling my dad about the weird house break in, but he’s on one of his "business trips" and I’ve left numerous voicemails. He’s supposed to be back Monday, but for all I know he could be dead.

I know this sounds extremely odd, but I’m so freaking worried I packed a suitcase and am staying at a friends. I’m scared, like for real.

Could me dad be an assassin?

In the movies don’t they take the kids for hostage or they get axe murdered?? I’m only 16! I just got my first car and I want to go to college. I’m too young to die. I’m really worried about my dad =/
Why would he need to sell drugs? He makes good enough money.

His ex girlfriend is a pretty good looking lady and they had been dating for 4 years?!?

Why would his "new girlfriend" have our house ransacked?

How do you know he’s not adept or not? I don’t know, but part of having a secret life is being able to hide it!
I’m going to get axe murdered =C

One of two things:
1) Your Dad is buying and selling drugs.
2) Your Dad has a girlfriend.
3) Your Dad probably isn’t adept enough to be a assassin. (you saw too many movies!)

awhhh its ok(: you know u might be right!!!! mabey like people offered him a higher position in his job(: call some of your family members and talk to them bout it! they might have some really good suggestions if your scared try to live with them for a while until things ease up and you know whats going on(: hope i could help(: and i hope you try to figure out what your dads really up to(:
bahamas-girl | Feb 03, 2010

If your house has been broken into, you need to call the police, if you father does work on secret information, I am sure you will be taken care of. I honestly think you are overreacting, you fathers rooms are probably not registered under his name, but through work. I would call the police and stay at your friends until your father returns. If he was an assassin, he would not be working so many hours.

wierd. i don’t know what to say…..very interesting story. until your Dady comes back, I think its best taht you stay at your friends.

then i would have a really long talk, and ask him why he is acting shady.

Corvette Summer
Corvette Summer (1978)

The car is a big hit — so big, in fact, that gets stolen! Kenny, having fallen in love with the car, sets out on a summer-long adventure in Las Vegas to find it. Along the way, he meets up with a “hooker-in-training” named “Vanessa” (played by Annie Potts). The two encounter danger and romance as they try to steal back the Stingray.

1984 Corvette question?
im looking to buy a 1984 Corvette for the summer and i have a few questions like for one is it a good car? how much are the parts and is the repair expensive? and the one i want to buy has 93 thousand k’s on it

1984…not exactly the best year for performance…just a few year,s into the computerized version…83 would be the 30th. year anniversary edition….not the best riding car either but it did handle well…that vintage with that kind of mileage just might nickle & dime you to death…but it is a chevy & most chevy part,s are cheap,…except those made especially for the corvette…good looking car but if you can afford it….transplant a newer version engine & electronic,s & look over that suspension…good luck!

slipstream | May 25, 2009

1. any car is a nice car if you take care of it.
2. yes, it is a classic car so the parts will be expensive.
3. that’s surprising. 25 year old car with under 100k, that’s rare.
BillyBobJoe | May 25, 2009

i have to disagree about the motor parts for that car, and many other shared parts with other chevys. Cheap as it can get, cheapest performance parts, and some of the cheapest stock. Not the greatest year, but with work it will freakin fly.
AsYLum dRiVeR | May 25, 2009

Parts are relatively cheap, however the car is going to be horrendously slow….the CFI motor in that year is complete junk.
gta_tony | May 25, 2009

not a good year. GM fuel injection in the 80s was pretty bad, i believe that year came with a crossfire injection, which is like 2 carbs, anyways , theyre prone to alot of problems. GM did get better as the decade passed on, with their production of the TPI, and later on the MAP TPI injection. i recommend a carb corvette, and one not made when car makers were trying to make more fuel efficient and enviromentally friendly cars
Gurk | May 26, 2009

Actually, there are a lot of people that have corvettes as toys and don’t drive them a lot. I have a friend that bought a 93 with 20,000 miles on it a couple years ago. A lot of corvette people don’t drive their cars a lot which I consider a shame, but it does mean that there are some older cars in great shape out there.

Slipstream, no production of 83’s. There’s one in the museum in Bowling Green and that’s it.

The dome destroys the team and leaves Luc injured. The recently widowed Jim McConnell leads the rescue mission. When they arrive, they find Lke surprisingly alive, and he has spent the time alone learning the secrets of the mysterious construct. Should Pres. Obama have cancelled our manned exploration of the moon?
Research and development for the 60s lunar missions created the tiny circuits and LEDs that gave us lots of advanced electronics, including computers. Is it smart to cancel a whole segment of the space program, instead of cutting back on other duplicated and wasteful government programs?

Stephen Hawkings has promoted manned exploration as uniquely human

http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn13 748-stephen-hawking-calls-for-moon-and-m ars-colonies.html

Frankly, very few astronomers actually want to send humans back to the Moon. It’s a huge, huge waste of money with very little science involved – and now that NASA’s funding will be going to missions and people that do science with it, I’m happy about that. That’s where my funding comes from, after all.

eri | Jan 29, 2010

A new lunar mission was never started, so there is nothing to cancel. Oh, NASA wanted to go, and lots of people proposed going, but congress never appropriated the money. All new manned rocket development is targeted at servicing the space station only. So if the president said it was cut (I hadn’t heard he did, but he might have), it has no real meaning.
campbelp2002 | Jan 29, 2010

No. He’s lost my vote in 2012, and I’m a left-leaning democrat. A permanent human presence on the Moon would have been our springboard to Mars. And if you’re not interested in that, mining helium-3 would have provided a new souce of unlimited energy that would make nuclear power look like steam power. And if you don’t believe fusion reactors are in our immediate future, solar power stations at the lunar poles would have been able to beam microwave radiation to Earth, right through the clouds, and provide unlimited free energy. Turning NASA’s manned space flight to private industry? I’m all for private spaceflight, but they’ve been working on that anyway. And so far, despite lots of empty promises and glossy pictures in magazines, we’ve had TWO suborbital flights. And it will be a long, long time before private industry can reach the Moon. But China will be there in a few years. I hope Obama is watching when some Chinese Taikonaut takes down Neil Armstrong’s American flag and puts up the Chinese flag.As far back as 1997 I was seeing promises of such-and-such a spaceship offering orbital flights to passengers by 1999! Only government space organizations have so far been able to put people, or even unmanned objects, in orbit, and NASA is the only space agency in all history that has succeeded in sending humans to the Moon. On the other hand, we have the prototype CEV, we have flight tested the Ares 1, we are halfway there. To scrap all that and turn our space program over to vehicles that DON’T EXIST at a time when China is QUICKLY getting ahead is the hieght of stupidity and short-sightedness. An aggressive space program would have provided thousands of jobs, new technologies and infrastructure, medical advances, education, leadership in the world, inspiration for our kids to get into science and math, and a sense of patriotism and pride, something that has been missing for too long. Every aspect of our civilization, from cars to computers to population, EVERYTHING, is based on an exponential growth curve, and you don’t need to be a mathematical genius to see that that trend is not sustainable indefinitely. The human race is getting too big, the Earth is getting too small. Now we are a third-world country. China will colonize the Solar System while the United States sits on Earth with its pop stars and religion and astrology and new age medicine, flexing its military muscle and calling itself a superpower. Obama has destroyed our future. This is such a stupid and short sighted decision; if your budget comes up short one month, you don’t cancel your 401k.

It is about jamican bobsled team, the very first one, and they make it to the olmpics. Is it based off of a true story?? thank you soo muh for your time and help

Yes, the movie was based on a true story, of course when Hollywood gets involved you are never sure how much truth remains in a story.

lestermount | Oct 18, 2009

In Calgary 1988 Winter Olympics Jamaica really did have a 4-man bobsleigh team that qualified.

I am sure movie stretched the truth for dramatic purposes.

IMDB rating: 7.50

Plot: 1943. With the battle of Stalingrad turning the war against them, the Germans are attempting to bully neutral Turkey into joining the Axis; to this end they have trapped 2,000 British soldiers on Kiros, an island in the Aegean, with only one sea route for evacuation, a sea route commanded by two gigantic German antiship batteries deployed in a massive cliffside bunker on the island of Navarone. Immune to air attack and too much for Allied battleships to suppress, the British muster Keith Mallory, a commando officer who has been working on occupied Crete for nearly two years and who is an expert mountaineer, to ferry a team of British commandos to the only area of Navarone that is not monitored by the Germans, a 400-foot cliff. Greek resistance is to meet the team inland and guide them around German patrols to the area of the German guns. However, the commanding officer of the British team suffers grave injury in the climb and Mallory must take control of the mission, despite clashes with explosives expert John Anthony Miller, who upon the arrival of the night of the raid finds his equipment has been sabotaged, thus exposing a traitor in the team’s ranks.

Oral – "Just Blew In From The Windy City"
Hetero – "Hive Full of Honey"
Gay – "It’s Harry I’m Planning to Marry"
Lesbian – "A Woman’s Touch"
Adultery – "Secret Love"
Drugs – "My Heart Is Higher Than A Hawk"

And as for "The Black Hills of Dakota" ….. I shudder to think!

Plot: Aladdin is a street-urchin who lives in a large and busy town long ago with his faithful monkey friend Abu. When Princess Jasmine gets tired of being forced to remain in the palace that overlooks the city, she sneaks out to the marketplace, where she accidentally meets Aladdin. Under the orders of the evil Jafar (the sultan’s advisor), Aladdin is thrown in jail and becomes caught up in Jafar’s plot to rule the land with the aid of a mysterious lamp. Legend has it that only a person who is a “diamond in the rough” can retrieve the lamp from the Cave of Wonders. Aladdin might fight that description, but that’s not enough to marry the princess, who must (by law) marry a prince.

My favorites are "Nobody Does It Better" by Simon Carly Simon and "A View To A Kill" by Lebon Simon Lebon. And oh yeah, you guessed it — my favorite 007 is "Simon" on "The Saint", Moore Roger Moore.

I agree Roger Moore was extremely entertaining he was a much better Bond than Connery and all the rest!…my favourite song was from Roger Moore’s debut as Bond in 1973’s Live and Let Die (name of song was also "Live and Let Die" by Paul McCartney.)

No Dutch oven: Super easy tortilla soup recipe needed!?
Thanks!

Why do you need a dutch oven for tortilla soup? Any good soup pot will work.

Sorry this is not exact but here is what I like to do.

Saute some onions and garlic in butter or olive oil. Add Chicken or vegie broth. Add at least 1/2 of a tortilla torn up into little bits. Simmer for a while and let the torrtilla dissolve. This add body to your soup.

When the tortilla is pretty well dissolved add a can or two of diced stewed tomatoes, cumin, pinch of chili powder, diced green chili’s, a sweeeze of fresh lime juice, and canned or frozen corn.

Also you could add sliced olives if you want to, and cooked chicken breast.

Top with fried tortila strips, store bought tortilla chips etc… chopped fresh cilatntro, and some shredded cheese
