self injury, a few questions..?
So I self injure, but, its not really that serious, I use sicsers (idk how to spell that, just those things you cut paper with) but I bleed a few drops of blood each time I cut. I cut about two times a week. My reasons for cutting are that I am depressed, and I feel dirty and stupid and when i cut all of that goes away. I do not feel like stopping, because it helps me in a weird way. So a few questions about it:

- Is this really cutting or am I just being a poser
- Is this a serious problem (only twice a week, btw, I’ve been doing this for about two weeks)
- I currently dont and never have cut on my wrist, I’ve heard this gives the best effect but I can see several veins on my wrist and they like are really close to the skin, is this normal or do I just have small bones (I know that some people have fatter wrists than others)

I know its a problem and that I need to stop, but im getting counselling and everything so don’t bother trying to talk me out of it, it won’t work over the internet lol.

You need to get out of it when you can. I too started by just doing barely there shallow cuts, but quickly progressed to deep wide ones…you don’t want that to happen to you because it’s very hard to get out of and very addictive. You should tell your counselor that you cut yourself, even if it was only 2 times. Just don’t do it anymore. It’s not that serious yet, but it can get serious pretty quickly. It is the underlying problem that is the problem, i.e. the reasons you are cutting/what is driving you to cut yourself, and if it is driving you to cut yourself, then yes it is serious.

Some alternatives are: running, listening to angry music, going to the gym and lifting weights, punching a pillow or pounding on a punching bag, screaming, writing poetry.,…there are countless alternatives but i understand how hard it is to make yourself go for the alternatives instead of cutting. You can use the 15 minute rule,, when you feel like cutting tell yourself you will wait 15 minutes before you do and in the 15 minutes do one of the alternatives and if at the end of the 15 minutes you still want to cut, go ahead, or continue with 15 more minutes, then 15 more minutes, et cetera, depending on how strong you feel. And you can let the urges pass in and out of you like a wave.

Something's up with my dad and I can't figure it out, but maybe I'm crazy?
Okay, okay I know this is going to sound like I’m high and living out of some badly scripted movie, but I’m the paranoid type.

My dad works as a Financial Systems Analyst (fancy for accountant) for the Department of Defense. Anyway, the past few months he’s been going on a lot more business trips than usual, like three times as many. He always gives me his hotel information in case of emergencies or if I need more money in my checking account or something. So one time I needed something, I called the hotel and requested him. They had no record of him staying at the hotel. Not only that, his four day trip turned into some mysterious eight day trip… and his phone wasn’t turned on (straight to voicemail). Super creepy? Well it happened a few more times before I called his work and they assured me he was there and that he was just super busy in meetings or something (Government people…). Well, so he supposedly had a trip to San Fransisco and I called his hotel and guess what? He wasn’t there! His cell phone was on, but he wasn’t answering. I must have spent four or five hours calling every hotel in the area. ALL said he wasn’t there.

He has also been working a lot more. Usually he’s home by 4 (unless he goes out with his friends or girlfriend), but he’s been working till like 6 or 7 and not coming home till like 8. His girlfriend of 4 years broke up with him for working too much!

On top of this, about a month ago this weird 866 number kept calling. A few times I answered and it was a woman (sounded black) in a very hushed voice, distressed voice. She would ask for my father. I would say the generic "He’s not her right now, can I take a message?" She would just hang up. I called back a few times expecting some company, but it was a personal number. It was to some guy named guy, and when it went to voicemail it said that it couldn’t take anymore messages as it was full. I told my dad and he said it was probably a solicitor or bill collector (except my dad isn’t in any kind of debt). They continued to call and I would hear breathing and then the call would end. Sometimes I would answer and it would immediately end. Now the phone isn’t even in service. I haven’t heard from "them" in a week, so I was curious and tried to call them back.

On top of all that I came home yesterday to find our house a complete wreck. It was ransacked. Nothing was stolen though! The intruder had taken stuff out of drawers and closets (my neatly organized closet TRASHED!) and thew it everywhere.

I think that my dad is like a secret spy or something?! This sounds crazy, I know. But its really weird. I think that he’s maybe an assassin or something top secret. I haven’t found a secret room in our house yet (like in the movies), but IDK.

My father also brought in a lot more money than his job pays him last year. I’m really nosy about his finances, which I know are none of my business. But his salary is public record.

I honestly think you are overreacting, you fathers rooms are probably not registered under his name, but through work. I would call the police and stay at your friends until your father returns. how can i keep my best friend(fwb)?
i was fwb with this guy he is suppose to also be my best friend ever. He has like me for so long i was so happy to have met this guy who lives in my buidling. We live in student housing so it was perfect. I was already dealing with his roommate who has us sneaking around since his roommate was into me yet i was like my best friend. Then stupid me i meet this girl who tells me she has a boifriend with some dude who is nah at the school yet she seems to have things in common with me so i thought,….Then she has this party i think cool so i take with me my best friend his roommate. I don’t know if you’ll think my comment is nice. I’m not going to be hateful or anything, but dear, I think you might think about looking for a boyfriend. This guy thinks of you as a friend, I’m sure … but mostly you’re the girl he screws without any strings attached. That’s not a great position to be in. You seem to have deep feelings for him but he doesn’t seem to reciprocate. Sounds like he’s on the look-out for a "real" girlfriend.

There’s an emotional closeness and respect that comes with being a person’s bf or gf. You’ve entered into a situation where neither of those seem to be present. And they may never be with this guy. It seems to me that once you’ve formed the sort of bond that ya’ll have it would be very difficult to back out and start over. Well Cannery Row is another good Steinbeck for starters. To Kill a Mocking Bird is a short classic almost everyone has to read it at school.

My 5 year old son's behavior is out of control…Help!?
I just don’t know what to do anymore. My son and I have definitely not had a normal life and I think this has really led to his current behavior. His father and I divorced when he was 6 months old. We were in the Air Force, stationed up in Alaska. A couple of months after we divorced, his father moved to a different base in Utah. He has since remarried and has never been a huge part of my son’s life. He calls every couple of weeks and my son goes to his house for a couple of weeks about once a year. My family is from the midwest and I didn’t make very many good friends while I was stationed there (as any female who has been in the military knows, the wives hate you and there aren’t many females that you work with, so making GOOD friends is difficult). So for the first 3 years of his life, I raised him completely by myself while also working a 60-hour workweek job. Disciplining was few and far between and I spoiled him rotten, mainly because I felt so guilty.

I got out of the Air Force, moved in with my parents, and started going to school full time in August of 2006. Things only have gotten worse. My parents hated the lack of discipline but instead of helping me or giving advice, most of the time they would berate my parenting skills or get mad at me or my son when he would do something wrong. After a year, I moved out and got my own place. I’m still going to school full-time and work part-time as a server when needed.

Justin has always been very active and very loud. So am I, and so is his father. He has also always been very emotional. Big meltdowns are something that I’ve been dealing with for years. Lately, however, the meltdowns are becoming colassal and impossible to deal with. If I ask Justin to do anything e.g. clean his room it usually becomes a huge deal with him screaming that he hates me, kicking me, hitting me, throwing toys, screaming this blood-curdling scream that has to be heard throughout the neighborhood. Twice when this has happened, I have given him a spanking. I’ve always been a firm advocate for not spanking but I just didn’t know what else to do. When I did it, I was very calm and it was just one swat, but it didn’t do anything. So now I just try to ignore him until he calms down. And when he tells me he hates me, I say that I’m sorry he feels that way and that I love him. Usually he calms down and would go a couple weeks between episodes. In the past month they have become more frequent and I’ve started to expect them every couple of days. And another new thing is that when I discipline him, he has started saying that I don’t like him anymore. This is heartbreaking to me, because this kid is my world!

Now I am busy…busy, busy, busy. I am a full-time student in my junior year and I do a lot of homework. I know I don’t play with him as much as I should. Quite frankly, I hate playing with cars, trucks, and trains and I have a hard time doing it for longer than a couple of minutes. But we do other things: coloring, watching movies, playing video games, going hiking, we go to the park several times a week, if not every day when it’s nice, and go to McDonalds playland when it’s crappy outside. He’s had swimming lessons, karate, tumbling. I try to do everything I can to make him happy and healthy. So I just don’t understand why his behavior and mood swings have gotten so severe. This has made me feel so guilty and I feel like it must be my fault and that I’m a terrible mother. I feel bad that his dad’s not around and bad that I have yet to remarry and get him a suitable "father" figure. (And that’s an entirely different post…I refuse to settle with just anyone!). Also, even though I try to do activities where he plays with kid’s his age, he has no friends that are his age. He calls my 24 yr old brother his best pal. None of my friends have children yet and I have no idea how to go about meeting kids for him. I’m hoping this will get better when he starts kindergarten in the fall?

So I took my son to the doctor and we will be starting counseling soon. I just want to know if there’s anything else I can do and if anyone else has had this problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

There are multiple things you can do. My son is 2.5 and has outbursts very similar to your sons. I made an appointment with his pediatrician just for myself to discuss my sons behavior. He referred my son to place called Early Steps. (I had never heard of it before). I took my son and they did a complete evaluation on him for everything. He qualified for some programs that were FREE for my husband and I. He gets to see a psychologist for his anger management persay. Also, the approach the child development therapist has given us options in dealing with these moments and it is VERY difficult and time consuming, it IS working. We are encouraging (almost over encouraging) good behavior. Only with verbal praise and hugs and kisses. When my son throws things, hits, screams at us, etc. we simply drop our heads look sad and say that it hurts my feelings and I don’t want to be around you when you are being mean and hurting me by hitting me. Then we just walk away staying in his sight and not look at him. The first day it made it worse, but we stayed consistent with it. When my son is done and realizes he is not getting a response from us acting like that he will walk up and want a hug and will clap and say I big boy pwease, and I take the oppertunity to tell him when he hits or screams that isn’t being a big boy thats being a mean boy. It was about 3 days and our hectic life that revolved around my sons attitude turned into we can go places now, he is pleasant to be around, he will do things without being told like picking up his toys and will come announce he is a big boy. No spoiling, I do not have to buy things, it was all natural things we should have been doing. My son is the first child for my husband and I the first grandbaby on both sides and the first great grandchild on both sides, so it has been hard. I realized we didnt know what we were doing or how to do it. And, it was okay, now we do. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from anyone where you live. You are not the only parent who is going through this at all. Nip it in the butt while you can and you will make your sons life easier for the both of you. I did learn that children feed off the emotional and mental state of their parents. We also had to make adjustments within ourselves too. We are in week 3 and its amazing the change in my sons behavior. Just do not give in. When everyone says it is all about being consistent, they are telling the truth. Consistency is the key. Spanking in my opinion should be used when your child does something that could cause harm to himself, like running in the street, I panicked and spanked my son when he did that and it was the first time he had done that and the first time I spanked him, however, he will grab my hand before he walks in the parking lot. My reaction scared us both that neither of us will have a repeat of that. I wish you all the luck in the world! Stay stern, if your son knows you are weak he will be able to manipulate very easily.

My son is 5 as well, and had similar problems with the ex etc except that my ex does have shared care, only he doesn’t discipline at all. If my son doesn’t like his dinner he’s allowed to throw the whole thing, plate smashing and all onto the floor. He swears, hits and punches. He’s starting to understand that he may be able to do it at dad’s, but its not acceptable behaviour for mum’s house. Trouble is Im scared of him, he’s knocked me out cold twice already.

I don’t really have any advice that’ll help, but my son also does the "you hate me" part and I believe its just trying to work out whats normal. They have a huge range of emotions and don’t understand just because you hate someone at the time, doesn’t mean you’ll like them again later, so if you’re upset or angry about something, they immediately think that you hate them and that scares them even more.

It sounds like you are a good mother, after all you wouldn’t care if he hated you otherwise. You’re interacting with him and the benefits will follow, just hang in there

I am a homemaker with 4 kids, age from 3 yrs to 9 years (2 boys & 2 girls) I used to work in a hotel line which required long working hours. I have similar problem as yours for my eldest son 2 years ago. This has opt me to resign from my job last year to really spend time to educate him. Thank GOD today my son behave much much better. My advice to you is to spend as much time with him and give him all the positive & encouraging word.

I got in a fender bender two years ago on private property. Can I be sewed?
It was a very minor 5 mph hit, and I dont think a police report was filed but some guy from carpenter law called me and said I had to pay 700 some odd bucks. He said the total cost was 1500 somethin and I had agreed to pay half. I never talked to him before so I don’t know where he got I would pay half. He called me a few days later and I didn’t answer but he left e a message saying since I didn’t call him back it is now being put in litigation. Can he really do anything to me? I was 17 at the time and this is the first I’ve heard about it.

So 2 years later after the accident, they want $700?!? That’s crazy. First of all, they have to prove you caused the damage, secondly, they have prove that the damage they claim actually happened during the accident 2 years ago. That’s virtually impossible to do so they have a very slim chance of winning this in a court case. Also, why is an attorney involved in a $700 claim? That’s not really worth their time.
If you actually get court papers call the insurance company you had at the time of the accident and tell them what is going on. The whole thing sounds very suspicious to me.

1984…not exactly the best year for performance…just a few year,s into the computerized version…83 would be the 30th. year anniversary edition….not the best riding car either but it did handle well…that vintage with that kind of mileage just might nickle & dime you to death…but it is a chevy & most chevy part,s are cheap,…except those made especially for the corvette…good looking car but if you can afford it….transplant a newer version engine & electronic,s & look over that suspension…good luck!

i have to disagree about the motor parts for that car, and many other shared parts with other chevys. Cheap as it can get, cheapest performance parts, and some of the cheapest stock. Not the greatest year, but with work it will freakin fly.

Parts are relatively cheap, however the car is going to be horrendously slow….the CFI motor in that year is complete junk.

not a good year. GM fuel injection in the 80s was pretty bad, i believe that year came with a crossfire injection, which is like 2 carbs, anyways , theyre prone to alot of problems. GM did get better as the decade passed on, with their production of the TPI, and later on the MAP TPI injection. i recommend a carb corvette, and one not made when car makers were trying to make more fuel efficient and enviromentally friendly cars

Actually, there are a lot of people that have corvettes as toys and don’t drive them a lot. I have a friend that bought a 93 with 20,000 miles on it a couple years ago. A lot of corvette people don’t drive their cars a lot which I consider a shame, but it does mean that there are some older cars in great shape out there.

Slipstream, no production of 83’s. There’s one in the museum in Bowling Green and that’s it.
